NEW SPORTS FACILITIES IN BEESTON

Sport-mad youngsters in Nottingham are making the most of a new cricket square and three football pitches next to new homes developed for a housing consortium.

The Quantum housing consortium is managing the 36 affordable properties, on Queens Road, Beeston, which were built by David Wilson Homes, as part of a larger scheme of about 150 homes.

The sports facilities were provided by David Wilson Homes because the land was bought from Nottingham Rugby Club and the Boys' Brigade. The site was the former home of Nottingham Rugby Club.

When planning permission was granted by Broxtowe Borough Council, housing developer David Wilson Homes agreed to build all the sports pitches and a pavilion behind the development.

Seven of the homes will be sold by East Midlands Housing through the Housing Corporation's shared ownership scheme New Build HomeBuy. Shared ownership means the purchaser buys a share of the property with a mortgage and pays less than market rent on the remaining share. Twenty-nine homes will also be rented out by East Midlands Housing.

The homes are made up of a mix of bungalows, houses and apartments and have either two or three bedrooms.

Jim Patman, Director of Development at East Midlands Housing, said: “Quantum is not just about building homes. We want to encourage communities where people can live, work and play and through their planning process Broxtowe Borough Council have supported this aim.

“These new facilities, provided by our partner David Wilson Homes, offer a fantastic opportunity to continue to develop Nottinghamshire sporting talent on this site. And the new homes provide ample choice to suit a wide range of circumstances.”
