RAISING THE BAR
Quantum member Derwent Living is embarking on an exemplar, low carbon, sustainable scheme in response to the Government's focus on sustainable housing.
The association has purchased a site in Derby, its home city, and plans to develop a Code Level 5 development – thought to be the first in the region.
All properties developed will be for affordable housing with a focus on user friendliness ensuring that the properties are economic and efficient to live in.
Design will be a high priority, and Derwent is keen to deliver an aesthetically appealing and innovative development, which will set a new benchmark for future schemes.
A range of affordable tenures will be offered, in order to analyse cost in use, and DVD licences have been sold to other interested housing providers.
Paul Casey, development director at Derwent Living, said: "We are committed to continually coming up with ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
"This scheme promises to be a landmark for us, and is a massive step towards achieving our aim to complete 20 carbon neutral homes over the next few years."
Work will start in 2010, with projected completion in 2011.
